CHINGARI AWARD JURY 2007

The first Chingari Award Jury consists of remarkable women activists/writers who have been working with communities or highlighting the issue of corporate accountability in their work. The six-member Jury for selecting the 2007 Award is:

Ms Ajitha George, Jharkhand
Ms Mahasweta Devi, West Bengal
Ms Mira Sadgopal, Madhya Pradesh
Ms Pamela Philipose, Delhi
Ms Sujata Gothoskar, Mumbai
Ms Usha Jayakumar, Kerala.

The Jury was chosen to represent all regions of India. It is chaired by Ms Mahasweta Devi and the Coordinator is Ms Ajitha George. The Jury has a rotational membership of two persons being replaced by new Jury members every year, starting from the third year.

The Bhopal memorial (the model for the Chingari Award trophy) was the focus for a candlelit vigil on the 18th anniversary of the disaster in 2002.
