CHINGARI BOARD OF TRUSTEES



The Chingari Trust has an impressive Board of Trustees composed of women who have made strong contributions through their work towards improving the lives of others.

Chairperson:

Suroopa Mukherjee
Reader, Department of English, Hindu College, University of Delhi. Currently Fellow, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, Teen Murti House, on a 3 year research project on "The Women Survivors of Bhopal". Author of "Bhopal Gas Tragedy, a book for young people", Tulika, Chennai, 2005 (revised and updated edition), "A Tale of the Forest", Rupa & Co, New Delhi, 2003, "Across the Mystic Shore", Macmillan New Writing, London, 2006. Co-ordinator of "We for Bhopal" a student group based in Delhi University and part of the Students For Bhopal (SFB) India Chapter.

Joint-winners of the 2004 Goldman Prize, given in recognition of their twenty years of struggle on behalf of the survivors of the Union Carbide gas disaster in Bhopal and against corporate crime.

Board members:

Madhumita Dutta
Activist. Been working for over 10 years on issues of environmental justice, toxics and health, supporting grassroots communities across the country fighting mining corporations, chemical industry over issues of justice, protection of natural resources and livelihood; working with unorganised sector workers and unions on right to safe work (occupational safety and health).

Gurpreet Kaur

Kavitha Kuruganti
Has been working with for more than 12 years promoting ecological agriculture and securing farmers' rights

Nirmala Kaur

Vinuta Gopal
Toxics Campaigner with Greenpeace India. Have been working on issues related to the toxic pollution in India and been especially involved in the Bhopal campaign since 2002.
